Is pay-per-click advertising for me?
December 4, 2015
Frequently, we are asked about Google AdWords and other pay-per-click (PPC) advertising options (Facebook, 7Search, Bing, etc.). Most people have a general understanding of what it is, but are less informed on how it works and how to use it.
Google AdWords is pay-per-click advertising. You pay Google to show ads for your products or services. You only pay if someone clicks on your ads. It can be extremely effective to promote your business if you use it properly and understand what it does.
Foremost, you must understand that Google AdWords is NOT a cure-all to use in place of organic search engine optimization. Organic search means the results you get without paying for advertising. Google AdWords results are temporary (if you stop paying, your ads go away). Your FIRST decision should always be to improve your organic search results THEN move on to paid advertising. This ensures your page never falls off of search completely, and makes the money you do decide to spend be used more effectively. The more your website is targeted to the same keywords as your ads, the better the results will be.
What AdWords is great for though, is for advertising events, specials, sales, seasonal offers, new products, and similar promotions. For these, it’s pretty much unbeatable in its effectiveness. You can get page one listings in Google that link to your product page or information on your event, etc. You can set up colorful display ads or even video ads and show them on specific websites that your customers are likely to frequent.
Google AdWords campaigns can be open to the entire world, only the US, or targeted down to your specific city, and everywhere in between. You can even use remarketing to target people who have been to your site before. On Facebook, you can target people who like or DON’T like your page, friends of people who like your page, and even specific interests, for example brides, new home owners, etc.
